asked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development, for the year ended 31st March, 1964, how many applications for plant and machinery grants were received from north-eastern development districts; how many were approved; how many were rejected; and what was the total amount granted.

In the year ended 31st March 1964, 350 applications for plant and machinery grants were received from north-eastern development districts; of these 202 were approved and 26 rejected or withdrawn. Offers were made of grants estimated at £730,000.
