asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations and the Colonies if he will now make a statement on the financial assistance offered to Malta both before and after independence.

Mr. Sandys

In the year 1963–64 the Malta Government received nearly £2 million from Colonial Development and Welfare Funds, about £1 million from the Colonial Grants and Loans Vote, and an Exchequer loan of £1 million.

This does not include about £2 million advanced for the reconstruction of the Dockyard. The aid to be provided after independence is at present being discussed between the two Governments.
