Thompsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what instructions he has given to scientific attaches regarding liaison with other Governments on the proposal to establish a World Health Organisation International Research Centre; and whether he will make a statement on the rôle of these attachés in promoting international scientific co-operation.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerAs my right hon. Friend the Minister of State for Education134W and Science explained in answer to Questions on 9th April, the World Health Assembly, at its session in March, requested the Director-General of the World Health Organisation to make a further study of this project. Meanwhile, there is no action to he taken in the matter by Her Majesty's representatives abroad or by their scientific attachés. The duties of scientific attachés include the promotion of scientific contacts between the United Kingdom and the countries to which they are accredited. This naturally covers the discussion of projects of international scientific co-operation.
