§ Vice-Admiral Hughes HallettSixty eight per cent. of the tonnage of new merchant shipping of 500 gross tons and above registered in the United Kingdom in 1963 was built in the United Kingdom. About three-quarters of the remainder was for shipowners resident outside the United Kingdom or for United Kingdom subsidiaries of foreign companies.
