HC Deb 08 April 1964 vol 692 cc213-4W
72. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the practice of his Department regarding the notice of dismissal given to instructor officers; and if he will arrange that longer notice is given, in order to assure improved conditions of employment.

Mr. Hay

Every officer in the Royal Navy is given warning if the value of his service is in question before any decision to terminate his Service career is taken, therefore, the officer himself is fully aware of this possibility. Once the decision has been taken he is given a period of terminal leave on full pay, depending upon his length of service.

We are looking to see if these arrangements can be modified to help men who leave after only a short time in the Service.
