§ Mr. HeathThrough the National Research Development Corporation the Government have contributed substantial sums to the development of computers. I understand that the Corporation has no new projects of this kind in mind at present, but the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, as part of a co-operative226W scheme with the computer industry, has recently placed five cost-sharing development contracts to a value of approximately £160,000 for work on fundamental elements of a computer system. The Government are always willing to examine any further proposals that may be put to them.
