§ Mr. A. Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that the average basic wage for unskilled Government dockworkers is 192s. per week, for semi-skilled workers 202s. per week and for skilled workers 257s. 6d. per week; and what proposals he has for increasing local authority house building in the areas where there are Government dockyards to enable these workers to have adequate housing conditions.
§ Mr. CorfieldIt is a matter for the local authorities to assess the housing needs of their areas and to plan their programmes accordingly. But I am not aware of any special demand on the part of these authorities to build houses for dockyard workers.
