HC Deb 21 November 1963 vol 684 c129W
Mr. Jay

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development what representations have been made against the proposed imposition of higher tariffs and other restrictions by the European Coal and Steel Community on imports of British steel into the contries of the European Economic Community.

Mr. du Cann

No proposals for the imposition of higher tariffs and other restrictions have been put to us nor, so far as I know, have any been agreed by the Community. We have expressed our concern about possible measures of this kind both to the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community and in the capitals of Members of the Community.
