HC Deb 21 November 1963 vol 684 c140W
Q10. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Prime Minister why the agreement made in 1949–50 between the then Government and the Royal Society, representing also the chief learned societies, to provide a science centre in London has not been implemented; and whether he will now establish such a centre.

The Prime Minister

The Government's decision not to proceed with the Science Centre Scheme in its original form was announced in 1958, following a review of the needs of the Royal Society and of other learned societies in Burlington House. My right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury proposes very shortly to make a statement in relation to accommodation for the Royal Society.
