HC Deb 21 November 1963 vol 684 c144W
Sir C. Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, with a view to encouraging staggered holidays, he will now consider fixing the date of Whitsun bank holiday on the last Sunday in May, to be known as the spring bank holiday, and the moving of August bank holiday to the Monday following the last Sunday in September, to be known as the autumn bank holiday.

Mr. Green

The recent White Paper on Staggered Holidays showed that the Government are well aware that a change in the timing of the two summer bank holidays might play an important part in a concerted national effort to spread the holiday load. Her Majesty's Government are studying the response to this White Paper but are not yet in a position to make any statement.
