HC Deb 20 November 1963 vol 684 c90W
52. Mr. Talbot

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the road improvements at the Cross. Kingswinford, in the urban district of Brierley Hill have increased the traffic hazards and that there is now danger to pedestrians; and whether he will institute some form of pedestrian controlled traffic light or the provision of additional refuges to improve the road safety conditions for pedestrians.

Mr. Galbraith

Road works have inevitably resulted in the width of the crossing of Sumner Hill being increased, but this is temporary. The works should soon be completed and then the crossing will be safer for both pedestrians and vehicles. If Market Street is widened a refuge will be provided. We do not consider that pedestrian control of the traffic signals or a pedestrian phase is justified.
