Mr. G. R. Strauss

asked the Minister of Transport what action he proposes to take to counter the discriminatory and damaging action taken by the Uruguayan and Brazilian Governments against British shipping.

Representations have been made to both countries. I am in consultation with our shipowners and diplomatic efforts continue in concert with other like-minded Governments. We have recently received a reply from Uruguay to our latest representations and this is being studied.
