Mr. Turner

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what arrangements are being made for the payment of compensation to Sir Alexander Waddell in respect of the termination of his appointment as Governor of Sarawak following the establishment of Malaysia.

Mr. Sandys

Arrangements are being made for the payment of £10,000 compensation. This sum will be advanced from the Civil Contingencies Fund and Parliament will be asked to reimburse it by means of a Supplementary Estimate to the Colonial Office Vote.
