Mr. B. Taylor

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many appeals have been rejected or given a lower assessment than that given by the medical board in the area covered by the Nottingham Medical Appeal Tribunal; and what percentage of the total this represents, for the last 12 months to the latest convenient date.

Lieut.-Commander Maydon

During the year 1962, 1,330 appeals by claimants were heard by the Nottingham Medical Appeal Tribunal. In 34 cases (2.6 per cent.) the medical board's assessment was varied unfavourably to the claimant and in 812 (61.1 per cent.) there was no change.

During the year 1962, 15,260 appeals by claimants were heard by Medical Appeal Tribunals. In 617 cases (4 per cent.) the medical board's assessment was varied unfavourably to the claimant and in 9,360 (61.3 per cent.) there was no change.
