41. Mr. Hale

asked the Secretary to the Treasury what amount of public funds has been expended in the purchase of British-made and foreign-made electronic computers, respectively, to the most recent convenient date for computation; and what orders have been placed for future deliveries.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

£5.8 million has been spent on British-made computers up to October, 1963, and orders have been placed amounting to a further £4.6 million. The corresponding figures for foreign-made computers are £1.1 and £0.7 million.
