Mr. Mapp

asked the Minister of Transport how many advisory and administrative staff, respectively, in his Department are engaged separately on road and railway matters, indicating in each case the personnel engaged on safety arrangements.

The staff shown under (a) include those concerned with the construction and maintenance of roads and the regulation of road traffic. The broadly corresponding work in relation to railways is not part of the functions of the staff of the Ministry of Transport. Of the officers engaged on road safety, 1,384 are employed in the driving test organisation.
