HC Deb 20 May 1963 vol 678 cc5-6W
55. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether any British subjects were among those recently attacked by A.N.C. soldiers in Elisabethville; and what reports he has received about the current state of public security in Katanga.

Mr. Smithers

Incidents on 4th and 5th May at Elisabethville are reported to have resulted in the deaths of five Africans and injuries to a number of others. No British subjects were involved. My information is that order has been restored and that there have been no incidents involvingArmée Nationale Congolaise soldiers in Elisabethville since 5th May. In Katanga as a whole, political and economic progress is being maintained.
