§ 36. Mr. Costainasked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what procedure is adopted to ensure that the duplication of effort by Government research organisations is kept to a minimum.
§ Mr. Denzil FreethGovernment Departments, Research Councils, and the Atomic Energy Authority are responsible for ensuring that there is no unnecessary duplication in their own organisations. This responsibility is exercised in a variety of ways. Use is made, for example, of advisory bodies, with interlocking membership: of interdepartmental scientific committees: and of the knowledge of scientific staff at Headquarters, and at Research Establishments, about relevant work being carried out elsewhere.
