HC Deb 14 May 1963 vol 677 c141W
57. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what assistance Her Majesty's Government are giving the Maltese Government towards the promotion of emigration to other parts of the Commonwealth.

Mr. Sandys

Subject to the approval of Parliament, Her Majesty's Government are offering up to £200,000 to assist the Malta Government in the promotion of emigration, the greater part of which is to other parts of the Commonwealth. Her Majesty's Government is supporting approaches made by the Malta Government to other Commonwealth Governments with a view to promoting an increased flow of migrants.

A senior official just retiring from the Ministry of Labour is being appointed to the Office of the Commissioner General for Malta in London to assist in arrangements for Maltese immigrants coming to Britain within the framework of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act.
