HC Deb 06 May 1963 vol 677 c21W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Power what information he has on the number and nature of the companies employed in conducting geophysical surveys in the North Sea for oil and natural gas; and what steps Her Majesty's Government propose to take to ratify the International Convention to enable the companies to apply for concessions in selected areas.

Mr. Wood

I understand that about fifteen companies are exploring the North Sea for oil and natural gas, or have plans to do so, either separately or in groups. They are all substantial companies experienced in oil exploration elsewhere.

The International Convention will be ratified by Her Majesty's Government after the necessary legislation has been passed.
