HL Deb 28 March 1963 vol 248 c348WA
LORD STONHAM

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To state the number of persons sent to prison for drunkenness (including such variants as drunk and disorderly) during the latest twelve month period for which figures are available.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (EARL JELLICOE)

During the twelve months ended 31st December, 1961, the number of receptions into prison for offences of drunkenness was 3,600, of which 2,772 were in default of payment of fines. These figures do not represent the number of persons received into prison, since some persons may have been received on more than one occasion; figures for the number of persons are not available.

House adjourned at twenty-nine minutes before eight o'clock.
