HC Deb 28 March 1963 vol 674 c175W
64. Mrs. Slater

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what investigations he has made into recent fires caused by the overturning of oil heaters; and to what extent these heaters conformed to the regulations of his department.

Mr. Woodhouse

The most recent investigation was the survey by the Joint Fire Research Organisation of fires caused by oil-heaters in the twelve months June 1960 to May 1961, the results of which were published last December. This survey showed that 10.4 per cent of all fires started by oil heaters in that period were caused by overturning or dropping. The Oil Heater Regulations made under the Consumer Protection Act, 1961, did not come into effect until June 1962.
