HC Deb 28 March 1963 vol 674 c172W
51. Mr. Woodnutt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to amend the Police Act, 1919, so as to increase the penalty of a £10 fine to that of a substantial term of imprisonment in cases where police officers are impersonated for the purpose of committing a crime.

Mr. Woodhouse

My right hon. Friend is not so far convinced that such an amendment of the law is required. In cases in which a police officer is impersonated by someone committing a more serious offence the offender is normally charged with that offence.
