HC Deb 28 March 1963 vol 674 c189W
86. Mr. P. Noel-Baker

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans Her Majesty's Government have made to establish municipal restaurants and other feeding centres in case of nuclear-attack on the United Kingdom.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

Responsibility for emergency feeding in the event of hostile action has been placed on the councils of counties and county boroughs in England and Wales and on the councils of counties and large burghs in Scotland. These authorities are required to prepare plans for emergency feeding which include making full use of existing catering facilities in their areas, setting up emergency meals centres and training personnel.

In Northern Ireland this Department, on behalf of the Northern Ireland Ministry of Home Affairs, has made plans to set up emergency feeding centres staffed by voluntary organisations in the event of an attack.

It is this Department's responsibility to ensure that food supplies are available.
