§ Mr. Kitson
asked the Minister of Defence whether he will consider moving the new Ministry of Defence, after the three Services have been amalgamated into one unit, to the north of England.

No. The central core of the new Department will clearly need to be in the centre of London so that Ministers can have access to the policy staffs and also because of the need for close contact between the central core and Departments like the Foreign Office, the Commonwealth Relations Office and the Colonial Office.
