asked the Postmaster-General why all new band instruments are not fitted with drawers in the base to contain information regarding telephone code numbers.

Mr. Mawby

Earlier types of telephone instrument had a drawer in the base, and the desirability of providing one in the new instrument was carefully considered, but had to be rejected. It would have increased the cost and detracted from the appearance of the new instrument. Information about S.T.D. dialling codes could not in any event be compressed into such a limited space.

asked the Postmaster-General if he has yet concluded his investigations about the differential charge of £3 for a white telephone as against a black one.
