HC Deb 25 March 1963 vol 674 cc119-20W
62. Mr. Lipton

asked the Attorney-General how many Crown witnesses in criminal prosecutions conducted by the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Old Bailey during 1962 failed to appear; and what action was taken against these witnesses.

The Attorney-General

In one case the court made an order that the recognizances of two witnesses who had failed to appear should be estreated. No record is kept of cases where no order is made. It is thought that there were not more than five during the year.
