§ 87. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for Air to what extent Service regulations permit men in the Royal Air 164W Force to discuss politics and to write letters to the Press; if he is aware that two men were imprisoned recently and discharged with ignominy for political activities of this sort; and if he will reconsider the case of these two youths with a view to reducing the sentences.
§ Mr. H. FraserAn officer or airman of the Regular Air Force is not allowed to take any active part in the affairs of any political organisation or party. The airmen in question, however, were charged under Section 69 of the Air Force Act with conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, namely, causing a letter to be published which could have encouraged dissent within the Service. The sentences imposed by the courts-martial are being considered by the Air Council.
