Mr. Warbeyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is now the total number of persons arrested in Singapore on or since 2nd February on the authority of the Singapore Security Council; and what information he has received from the United Kingdom representatives on the Council about the number of those so far charged with offences, the number deported and the number still in detention.
§ Mr. SandysThe answer to the first part of the Question is 119. Seventeen of these persons, who are of Federation origin, have been sent back to the Federation of Malaya. The remainder are being detained in Singapore under the Preservation of Public Security Ordinance.
