HL Deb 18 June 1963 vol 250 c1272WA
BARONESS HORSBRUGH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a statement about publicity for the opportunities available in institutions of higher education other than universities.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF HEALTH (LORD NEWTON)

I am sending my noble friend a copy of a booklet,Further Education for School Leavers, which is to-day being sent to local education authorities, direct-grant and independent schools, and others concerned. This is primarily intended to help secondary schools of all kinds in advising pupils about the wide variety of opportunities available to them for continuing their education after they leave school, but Her Majesty's Government hope that it will be read by others concerned with the further education of young people, including parents and employers. In view of the growing pressure on places in institutions for higher education the sections dealing with the facilities for full-time advanced courses should be of special interest. The subjects dealt with in the booklet include science and technology, the social sciences, art, commerce and agriculture, at the various levels up to degrees and the Diploma in Technology. Copies are available free from the Ministry of Education.

House adjourned at three minutes before eight o'clock.
