§ Mr. GalbraithThe tunnel contract was let in October, 1961. The Tyne Tunnel Joint Committee, which is the highway authority, says that a pilot tunnel has been driven two-thirds of the distance across the river and good progress is being made with the main tunnel. The work is scheduled for completion in 1965. A road will then be built through the tunnel and is expected to be completed in 1966.
