§ 82. Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware of the increasing number of vacant plots of ground in many cities used for dumping unused motor cars; and if he will introduce legislation to authorise local authorities to establish centres where car owners can take their cars when they are 19W no longer usable, and to make it a legal obligation to dispose of old cars in this way.
§ Sir K. JosephI am aware of this problem. I am advised that local authorities' powers, under Section 74 of the Public Health Act 1936, to dispose of refuse on request enable them to remove unwanted cars. Some authorities have additional powers in local Acts. I am quite prepared to consider any evidence which the hon. Member sends me that the present provisions are insufficient.
