Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Transport how many ships for British firms have been built in foreign shipyards during each of the last three years to the latest convenient date, and what was their total tonnage.

Mr. Marples

I understand that the numbers and tonnages of vessels recently completed abroad for British owners are as follows:—

  • Twelve months to 30th June, 1961: 17 vessels of 134,600 gross tons.
  • Twelve months to 30th June, 1962: 19 vessels of 201,974 gross tons.
  • Twelve months to 30th June, 1963: 24 vessels of 297,142 gross tons.
