asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the terms of reference of the Salmon Committee; how the Committee will be constituted, and if it will include a representative from the Nurse Tutors.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY HEALTH (LORD NEWTON)

The Committee's terms of reference are to advise on the senior nursing staff structure in the hospital service (ward sister and above), the administrative functions of the respective grades, and the methods of preparing staff to occupy them. The Chairman is Mr. Brian Salmon, a member of the Westminster Hospital Board of Governors.

The members are:—

J. Greene, Esq., Chief Male Nurse, Moorhaven Hospital, Ivybridge, S. Devon.

Miss J. Lock, Matron, Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow.

Prof. T. T. Paterson, Head of the Department of Industrial Administration at the Royal College of Science and Technology, Glasgow.

Miss M. B. Powell, C.B.E., Matron, St. George's Hospital.

Miss E. M. Rees, Matron. Cardiff Royal Infirmary.

Dr. J. Revans, M.B.E., Senior Administrative Medical Officer, Wessex Regional Hospital Board.

Miss G. M. Westbrook, Matron, Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

G. H. Weston, Esq., Secretary, Reading and District Hospital Management Committee.

Dr. S. R. F. Whittaker, Consultant Physician, Warwick.

Four of the nursing members hold a Tutor's qualification.
