§ Commander Purseyasked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider reducing the television licence fee for the Hull area for the period when British Broadcasting Corporation television is not available.
238W
§ Mr. BevinsIt would be impracticable to attempt to vary television licence fees according to reception conditions, which may vary not only from place to place but also from time to time, and I could not make an exception for the Hull area.
§ Commander Purseyasked the Postmaster-General when the new low-power satellite television station envisaged for the Hull area will be built; whore this station is to be sited; and what will be the cost.
§ Mr. BevinsI would refer the hon. and gallant Member to my reply on 16th July, to my hon. Friend the Member for Kingston-upon-Hull, North (Mr. Coulson).
The B.B.C. has not yet put to me its proposals for the next stage of its satellite station scheme, but it now says there is a possibility that Hull will benefit from its new Band III station in East Lincolnshire which it hopes to open by the end of 1964 or early in 1965.
