§ Commander Purseyasked the Minister of Labour (1) how many men were unemployed in the distribution trades, transport and communications, and construction industries, respectively, in Hull at the last count; what training is offered for other industries; how many are being trained; and what other steps are being 237W taken to reduce the amount of unemployment in these industries in the city;
(2) how many building trade labourers were unemployed in Hull at the last count; and what steps are being taken to find these men alternative employment in Hull or outside, and to train them for other employment.
§ Mr. HareOn 15th July, 330 men last employed in the distributive trades, 373 men last employed in transport and communications and 352 men last employed in the construction industry, including 60 building trade labourers, were registered as unemployed at Hull Employment Exchange. My local officers will continue in their efforts to find suitable employment for these people.
I am setting up a Government training centre at Hull where suitable men will be able to train in skilled trades in the building and engineering industries. In the meantime the nearest Government training centre is at Leeds.
