HC Deb 25 July 1963 vol 681 c218W
63. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the First Secretary of State what progress has so far been made in transferring responsibility for health matters in Nyasaland from the Federal Government to the Nyasaland Government; and what information he has received regarding the number of medical officers who will be willing to continue in service in Nyasaland after the transfer of responsibility.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The transfer of this service is now under consideration by the General Committee which was set up in accordance with the Report of the Central African Conference, 1963, and on which Nyasaland is represented.

It is not yet known how many medical officers will be willing to continue to serve in Nyasaland, but I understand that some of them have indicated that they are prepared to do so. The terms on which Federal Officers may be absorbed into the territorial public services are also at present under discussion in the special Public Service Committee set up by the Conference.
