Jannerasked the Minister of Transport, in view of the offers which are being made in various parts of the country by business groups or local authorities to buy unwanted stretches of railway with a view to operating them as private concerns, what arrangements are contemplated to control the conditions under which such operations are carried out, so as to ensure for example, safety on level crossings.
§ Mr. Ernest MarplesA Light Railway Order will normally be necessary in such cases. If I grant one, I shall see that it includes appropriate provisions for the safety of operation.
