HC Deb 24 July 1963 vol 681 cc175-6W
74 and 75. Mr. Hayman

asked the Minister of Transport (1) what information he has on the extent to which British ships are being repaired in Continental shipyards;

(2) whether he will take steps to ensure that all British ships are repaired in British shipyards, except in emergencies.

Mr. Marples

There are no official records which show the extent to which British ships are repaired abroad, but I do not believe that to restrict British shipowners to British repair yards would be in the best interests of either industry.
