HC Deb 23 July 1963 vol 681 c165W
Earl of Dalkeith

asked the Minister of Transport if he will publicise the results of the official analysis of recent motor accidents, which confirm the value of safety belts in saving life and minimising injury.

Mr. Marples

The question of safety belts is investigated by the Road Research Laboratory of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research as part of their normal programme. Some results showing the effect of safety belts on personal injury accidents have already been published by that Department. I understand that the results of a further investigation will be available soon, but their publication is a matter for my noble Friend the Minister for Science. The desirability of calling attention to the value of wearing safety belts will be kept in mind when planning future road safety propaganda campaigns.
