HC Deb 22 July 1963 vol 681 c137W
Mr. MacDermot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many fixed penalty tickets were issued in the Metropolitan Police District in 1962; how many were paid voluntarily; and how the remainder were disposed of.

Mr. Woodhouse

185,626 fixed penalty tickets were issued in the Metropolitan Police District in 1962. The fixed penalty was paid in 131,492 of these cases without proceedings having been taken. Tickets were cancelled or payment excused in 33,738 cases, and summonses issued in 20,396 cases.

Mr. MacDermot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average time between the issue of a fixed penalty ticket and court proceedings arising in the Metropolitan Police District from non-payment of the fixed penalty.

Mr. Woodhouse

During the first six months of this year the average time between the issue of a fixed penalty ticket in the Metropolitan Police District and a court hearing after failure to pay the penalty was about five months.
