§ Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware that recent experience in the scheme to provide improvement grants for installing baths, inside water closets and hot water systems shows that many local authorities are unable to assure inquirers that the houses involved will have more than 15 years' life; and, as amongst other reasons it is difficult for them to be certain so far ahead whether these particular houses will be demolished, if he will consider reducing the minimum period to eight years.
135W
§ Mr. CorfieldMy right hon. Friend is not aware that local authorities in general are haying difficulty in the way suggested. It is right that houses to be improved to a full standard should be physically sound to last for a good number of years and the present test of 15 years is, I believe, reasonable.
