HC Deb 22 July 1963 vol 681 c138W
Mr. Talbot

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to ensure that the liability for jury service of persons engaged in agriculture is kept to a minimum during the summer months, in view of the importance of ensuring that farmers and agricultural workers are not taken from their work during the busiest period on the farms.

Mr. Brooke

This matter falls within the terms of reference of the Committee on Jury Service which I appointed recently under the Chairmanship of Lord Morris of Borth-y-Gest. Courts and summoning officers already have power to excuse jurors from service where there is good reason for doing so.
