§ Mr. Talbotasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to ensure that the liability for jury service of persons engaged in agriculture is kept to a minimum during the summer months, in view of the importance of ensuring that farmers and agricultural workers are not taken from their work during the busiest period on the farms.
§ Mr. BrookeThis matter falls within the terms of reference of the Committee on Jury Service which I appointed recently under the Chairmanship of Lord Morris of Borth-y-Gest. Courts and summoning officers already have power to excuse jurors from service where there is good reason for doing so.
