HC Deb 22 July 1963 vol 681 c130W
Mr. Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Labour how many males and females were registered as unemployed at the Bexhill, Hailsham and Rye employment exchanges at the latest available date in July; and how many of them were over 55 years of age, under 18 years of age, and school leavers, respectively.

Mr. Hare

The table below gives the information desired:

Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Minister of Labour what is the number and percentage of persons unemployed, at the latest count, in the Stornoway area; and what steps are now being taken to provide employment locally to prevent the level of unemployment in the winter and spring months rising again to over 30 per cent. in the area, as in recent years.

Mr. Hare

1,127 or 20.3 per cent. on 15th July. The Government will continue their efforts to provide more employment in this area where the full facilities of the Local Employment Act are available.
