§ Mr. Boydenasked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science how many postgraduate students are holding Department of Scientific and Industrial Research awards; what percentage this is of all full-time post-graduate students studying 118W in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research's field; and how many of these students who completed their studies in 1962 were subsequently appointed to the staffs of home universities or colleges of advanced technology.
§ Mr. Denzil FreethAt 1st November, 1962—the latest date for which data are available—there were 3,473 students holding D.S.I.R. studentships (including those holding N.AT.O. Studentships). Of these students 3,412 held their studentships at universities and colleges in Great Britain and two in Northern Ireland, and they were approximately 38½ per cent. of all full-time postgraduate students in D.S.I.R.'s field in these institutions.
Information is available about 991 D.S.I.R. students who entered employment on the termination of their awards in the year ending 30th September, 1962. Of these 357 joined the staffs of home universities, and 18 joined the staffs of colleges of advanced technology.
