HC Deb 18 July 1963 vol 681 cc86-7W
Mr. Holt

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is satisfied with the level of effective demand in Great Britain; and whether, in view of the high level of saving and the relatively moderate growth of consumption and investment, he is envisaging further steps to increase domestic demand.

Mr. Maudling

The Government's policy is aimed at bringing about a substantial rise in the level of effective demand. Measures to stimulate consumption and investment have already been introduced on a considerable scale; but have not yet had time to produce their full effect. Such indications as I have are encouraging, and I have no further steps in mind at the present time.
