§ Mr. Holtasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is satisfied with the level of effective demand in Great Britain; and whether, in view of the high level of saving and the relatively moderate growth 87W of consumption and investment, he is envisaging further steps to increase domestic demand.
§ Mr. MaudlingThe Government's policy is aimed at bringing about a substantial rise in the level of effective demand. Measures to stimulate consumption and investment have already been introduced on a considerable scale; but have not yet had time to produce their full effect. Such indications as I have are encouraging, and I have no further steps in mind at the present time.
