HC Deb 18 July 1963 vol 681 c78W
39. Miss Herbison

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many jobs have been provided since the passing of the Local Employment. Act, 1960, in the areas covered by Airdrie and Coatbridge Employment Exchanges, giving separate figures for each area; and what proposals he has for the siting of an industrial estate in this area to provide work.

Mr. Erroll

It is estimated that about 190 jobs have already arisen in Airdrie and about 380 in Coatbridge from industrial development certificates issued since 1st April, 1960. The Board of Trade are negotiating for a site for another industrial estate of approximately 100 acres a short distance from these employment exchange areas, but I am not yet ready to announce the location.

43. Mr. Dempsey

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is his estimate of the number of jobs which will be provided for those registering at Coat bridge and Airdrie employment exchanges in the new industrial estate for north Lanarkshire; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Erroll

The Board of Trade are negotiating to buy a site for a new industrial estate in North Lanarkshire. This is a long term project and it is much too soon to make any forecasts of the employment likely to be provided.
