HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 cc71-2W
Mr. Lubbock

asked the Minister of Power why the capital cost per kilowatt of the Oldbury nuclear power station is estimated to be higher than that of Dungeness or Trawsfynydd, which have earlier commissioning dates, although the use of concrete pressure vessels was expected to lead to a reduction in costs.

Mr. Wood

The capital cost per kilowatt of Oldbury is much lower than for Trawsfynydd.

It is expected to be slightly higher than for Dungeness mainly because there has been extra expenditure on site works at Oldbury, in particular for the construction of a tidal reservoir. There was also some increase in prices between the placing of the orders for the two stations.
