HL Deb 17 July 1963 vol 252 cc295-6WA
LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

If they will state the estimated amount of the subsidy which will be paid to beef producers in this country by way of deficiency payments during the current year.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND FOOD (LORD ST. OSWALD)

The published estimate of expenditure under the cattle guarantee for the financial year 1963–64 is £36.94 million for the United Kingdom. Since deficiency payments depend on the course of market prices and supplies over the year as a whole and about nine months still have to run, it is too early to speculate on how the cost will actually turn out.

House adjourned at fourteen minutes before eight o'clock.
