§ Mr. Lubbockasked the Postmaster-General what was the expenditure on advertising designed to encourage the use of telephones in the last financial year; what is the budget for this purpose in the current financial year; and what is his assessment of the increase in the revenue of the Department which will result from this advertising.
§ Mr. BevinsIn the last financial year there was no publicity specifically designed to encourage the use of telephones. Some publicity had this indirect effect. The same is true of some of the publicity this year: and in addition £250,000 will be spent for the specific purpose of encouraging traffic. This is a calculated commercial risk which, in my judgment, will pay off.
